Iris van Herpen Exhibition at ArtScience Museum

Hi all!

Some people forest bathe. I 'art-bathe' to soak in some creative vibes.

I decided to visit this exhibition on a whim. It was a little weekend adventure to combat a modern malaise - routine! (a.k.a. boring adulting).

This beautiful poster is just a small teaser of what the exhibition offers...

I have never heard of the designer before... so I'm was really just diving into her work for the first time!

I was not disappointed. Her works are devastatingly wonderful. Here's a look!

I think Lady Gaga wore this dress.

(From the Sensory Seas collection.) It is wonderful how she captured the essence of a lion fish so gracefully.

Her work is very detailed and intricate. I love all the symmetry and thought behind each piece!

So breathtaking.

This section features beautiful concept sketches as well as video, so you can see the works on the runway, or performed in a dance. BEAUTIFUL! The movement is so astounding and stunning.

I absolutely adore the sketches as well. They are so elegant yet chic.

Seeing this in motion left me speechless.

Famous people wearing Iris van Herpen, including Björk, Lady Gaga, Rihanna, J.Lo and more.

Iris van Herpen commands unique, unexpected materials with masterful skill.

This one is some kind of 3D printed synthetic(?) wood. WOOD.

A dress made of magnetic filings.

A stunning piece made from 'sustainable fabric weave from banana leaves'. The way my jaw dropped.

She does not shy away from using new cutting edge technology nor materials (sea plastic, etc) to create gutsy, bold designs. These are just a few examples!

A wall of textures~ It is so fun and interesting to see how artists work, and how they consider each material.

Besides dresses, the exhibition includes thoughtful curation like this curious cabinet:

"Good Vibrations Cabinet"

They also intersperse exhibition with fossils, shells etc from the natural world.

In fact I was so curious about this particular animal (a Dimetrodon, a mammal like reptile that predates the earliest dinosaurs) that I forgot to take a picture of the Bene Gesserit (Dune) dress Iris designed for Grimes.

I also love the moving parts of the designs. So clever!

This next piece is "Daphne", the centrepiece for Paris Fashion Week.

Behold the incredible textures she creates with bold patterns.

At the end of the exhibition, you are invited to flip through some of her photo books. Every page is a masterpiece! It really takes your breath away.

What an inspiring trip! Daily life can be dull so such brushes with creativity and art really lifts my spirits and excites my soul. I've learnt that I have to be intentional with this so I hope to continue seeking out more art experiences!
