Heyo!

Recently I baked a new batch of multi-grain bread, with better results! This time I kneaded the bread more, and painted the buns with egg wash before popping them into the oven.

 Just a little update.

Sis ate it on the go!
Mum ate it like a burger, with pork floss.
BF ate it like a bagel, with cheese and ham.

I ate it like a lunch roll, with a full breakfast of eggs, tomatoes and vegetables
Gonna work on making these buns less dense and more fluffy! Any advice? :)

Love,
Skye
Hey guys!

Glad to announce the release of my new original song, 'Earlier'. Sorry I couldn't get it out to you... earlier. *Ba dum tss!!* XD

Jokes aside, there's a good reason for the delay. Though I finished the recording of the song a looooong time ago, I decided to challenge myself and make a more complex animated video than Feed The Machine, which was kind of an animated loop of Sonny the dinosaur collecting scraps to feed the machine.

What is the song "Earlier" about?

Sometimes when you are entrenched in an unhealthy situation or encounter difficult people, you might not have the courage to take action to make things better. This could because you are too afraid, too uncertain about the ramifications, or too comfortable in your current position to make a change.

And when you finally do snap to your senses and do what is right, you tell yourself, hey, I really should have done this earlier! I hope this song inspires people to do things that they have been putting off - whether it is leaving a toxic workplace, walking away from unhealthy relationships or pursuing something they care about. #selfcare

Tell us more about the song creation process.
I actually toyed around a lot with the melody of the pre-chorus. I also went for a bass driven line this time, instead of a repeating, chaotic sounding motif like in Feed The Machine. I wanted this song to sound more relaxed and smooth, with a little city pop vibe.

Tell us about the video process.
Making a 3 minute-ish 2D video is no joke! I spent a lot of time drawing and colouring scenes on Adobe Sketch, before importing them into Photoshop and Premiere Pro to "animate" them. By "animating", I would say I only played around with simple tools like keyframes, rotation, scale, and panning. Hope to equip myself with more skills for both animation and art so my videos will improve its standard!

Some behind the scenes pictures:

The video is largely based on true stories I collected. For example, encountering politics in the company, having inadequate quality time with loved ones and downsizing for a less stressful life.

What's next?
I am going to tackle some covers that are requested by my Instagram followers next! It's been a long time coming and I want to thank them for their patience :)

Happy listening & thank you for the support!

Hey guys!

Stateland / Brotherbird in Bugis got a revamp and is now called Brotherbird Coffeehouse. I used to go there for their mochi donut + soft serve, but have not had the chance to try out their croissants!

As I have mentioned in one of my posts, I am super into croissants now and have been watching lots of croissant making videos! XD It's fascinating to see people pin it down to an exact science.

Oolong Croissant ($5) and White ($4.50)
Cross section of Oolong Croissant.
The Oolong Croissant is finely layered, crispy and flaky. Wish it was slightly toasted. I guess the USP of this croissant is the generous portion of oolong custard in the middle portion of the croissant.  Oolong is subtle and fragrant, but honestly I don't need so much custard in my croissant haha! Loved the sugar glaze too and the cute little chocolate button atop the croissant. Great croissant IMO even without the filling.

As for the coffee (white), latte art was cute and the coffee had a slight sour acidic aftertaste. Know very little about coffee so that's about all I can offer you XD

Double Chocolate Roll ($4)
The Double Chocolate Roll was a beautiful work of art too! Dusted with cocoa powder, the roll is not too sweet and much to the liking of my pal Chanel! The pastry is crazy crispy though, so if you're using the fork and knife, you might get flakes flying everywhere. I guess we should just use our hands :D Is that barbaric? Is it faux pas to do so in France?

Lastly I also bought a Feroro Rocher Croissant as a takeaway.

Feroro Rocher Croissant ($5)
It's looking real fancy with a little gold spray! However we felt that the chocolate was a bit too sweet and overpowers the buttery croissant. Like the Oolong, I think the flavours are not completely in harmony, or maybe it's just me who likes more balance in flavours for this notoriously tricky pastry! I guess I prefer a classic (plain) croissant after all.

Second floor of the Brotherbird Coffeehouse
Forgot to take interior shots, but here's a real quick snap I sent to my friend in a message. For more beautiful photos of Brotherbird Coffeehouse, check out my friend LeeLee's posts on IG here. (And give her a follow if you like her work!) A huge part of why we paid this cafe a visit was because of her beautiful shots of the croissants. XD

Payment was by NETS or cash~

An OK place to hang out but noise levels can get loud in the echoey upper floor when there are many chatterboxes around. Some oblivious customers also push back their chairs with force, creating a deafening screeching noise each time they stand up or adjust their chairs. Halp la.

Lastly, though they ran a #workfromcoffeehouse initiative in February, which encouraged people who were 'working from home' during this coronavirus period to visit, I didn't see many wall sockets/power points available so I guess you have to bring your own power sources. Sad lol.

Still a nice place to grab a delicious pastry, but be prepared for crowds if you visit during peak hours.

Love,
Skye

Heyo~

Couple weeks back, we spotted this really snazzy Korean fast food joint at Clarke Quay. With black and pink American diner styled furniture, the restaurant's offerings of fried korean chicken, burgers and milkshakes looked very promising and enticing.

So a few weeks later, we made our way to the Wisma Atria branch to give Burger+ a go!

Hazelnut Milkshake ($7.80)
This milkshake is part of a combo (main, side, drink)! I love that it is not over-the-top sweet (Macdonald's milkshakes), and the hazelnut flavour really works here! Smooth, cold and thick, like a milkshake should be. Mmm would be perfect if they offered a hazelnut latte kind of milkshake, since they already offer a coffee milkshake anyway.

Truffle Fries ($9.80)
We were deliberating between the truffle fries and the garlic fries, but went for this option in the end. Huge portion considering this is a side! You can see strips of cheese and the sauce was good too. Nothing crazy outstanding but a good side to share with others.

6 Pcs Chicken in Yangnyeom sauce ($9.20)
We went for the mildly spicy Yangnyeom chicken (wingettes and drumlets). The special Korean sauce is described as sweet and tangy. Enjoyed the sauce, crispy hot chicken, BUT - it's a huge but here - we found the chicken inside sadly bland. Maybe they thought that the sauce would be the end-all for flavouring of the Korean fried chicken. Terribly wish that the meat was marinated better! Maybe we hyped ourselves too much but this was disappointing for us. Still on the search for great Korean fried chicken in Singapore.

Beef Bulgogi Burger ($13.80)
Last but not least, the verdict on the burger from a chain that is called Burger+! Does Burger+ really live up to its motto, "More Than Just A Burger"?

Kind of expected the Beef Bulgogi burger to come in sliced beef lol! Bun was fluffy and of the brioche texture. Onions were soft and sweet, but the meat patty, oh the meat patty! What a shame! If it could be juicier with more sauce, I would love it so much more! The burger is conservative in flavour and lacks a certain charismatic character to warrant a second trip to the outlet.

Total bill came up to $38.10.

Overall I guess you can say we were ready to be impressed but were mostly not wowed by anything. Really wanted to love this place but the food was not really to our taste (nor our wallets haha.)

Hence I'm going to give this place a:

B+. Badumtss.
