Heyoooo!

Have you caught Avengers: Endgame yet? I hope you have, cuz this post is gonna be full of spoilers.

Note: This post is not meant to analyse anything. It's just me sharing my thoughts :)

We camped online and got our GV tickets for the first day for $9.50 each. Not so much for trying to be the first to watch the movie, but because Wednesday worked for our schedule LOL.

Later in the afternoon, the news reported that people were trying to sell tickets for $300 a pop in Singapore. You siao ah. I wonder if anyone really bought these tickets.

PRE MOVIE
We didn't order any drinks and drank water sparingly. The fear of needing to pee during the movie is real. I honestly didn't encounter any spoilers, or maybe they really didn't register in my mind at all. /shrugs

There was this, however, in the news.

Brie Larson and Scarlett Johansson at the LA premiere, sporting Infinity Stone jewellery!

Cropped their hands so you get a closer look!

Feels very spoiler right?

SPOILERS BEGIN HERE

START OF THE MOVIE
Watching with first day fanbros is always fun. When the movie started, they whooped and clapped, and then someone shushed them Lol.

The scene starts with Hawkeye and his family in an idyllic setting. Someone was like, "Start already ah?" Lol. It did look like an ad.

THE MOVIE

Fanbros had funny sound effects throughout the show.

When Scarlet Witch came out: Oh shit.
When Spiderman and other 'dead' characters came back on the battleground: OOOO
When Tony died:  *sniffle*

My fave parts:

  • Laughing at Fat Thor! (Yes I am aware of all the fat shaming news etc. Try reading this too)
I love how he cups his belly. So relatable. Haha.
  • Laughing at Cap Am handling the hammer like a pro, even summoning lightning. I KNEW he would use it since he managed to lift it before.
  • "You take the little one," said Thor to Captain.
  • "Hail Hydra." Cap is the last person you would have thought would say that. LOL
  •
"I can do this all day."
    "I know, I know."
  • Being like YAAAS when Black Panther, and the rest of the good guys came back to fight together. Let the phoenix rise from the literal ashes! The reunion scene was great.
  • Lol-ing when superheroes meet each other and say hi.
  • The all girl moment when the badass heroines guarded Cap Marvel as she brought the gauntlet to Antman. It was kind of strange that they suddenly came together but oh well Marvel throws us a little morsel of girl power here. Does this only happen when Cap Marvel is around?
  • Silly Smart Hulk (as described by the subtitles)
  • Scarlet Witch: "You took everything from me."
Thanos: "I don't even know who you are!"
  • The soul stone scenes in this movie, and the Infinity War, are always heartbreaking.
Lol moments in my mind
  • I couldn't recognise some peeps without enough context, such as the Wasp. Oops.
  • When Scott Lang approached his house, I thought we were gonna see that huge ant playing drums again. LOL
Me when Thanos had the gauntlet AGAIN: NOOOOOOO
I hate it when movies and shows employ the do-over style, like in Groundhog Day or in Umbrella Academy. It really grates on me.
However, in Avengers Endgame, old scenes were cleverly used to steal the stones back. They were kept short and sweet too.

AFTER THE MOVIE
It's discussion time! (And time to visit the toilet.)

Sad moments:
  • When Black Widow died :O "Seeya in a minute," she said.

  • Iron Man. Nuff' said. People started sniffling in the cinema.
Satisfying parts:
  • Remember when Nebula first rejected Gamora's hand at the start of the movie? She finally takes it later in the movie, and together they help defeat Thanos.

  • When Thor passes down the baton to Valkyrie. Yeaaaah.
  • When Captain America passes down his shield and his responsibility. Lots of new guard changes, which is fitting for the end of a series.
I also googled more to figure out which stones we saw in previous movies. Things get confusing sometimes.

WHO ARE YOU?
At the funeral, the camera pans around to show us who was present. This included a teenage boy.
Many were left scratching their heads - who is this boy?

Apparently he's from Iron Man 3, and his name is Harley Keener. Iron Man was raiding his garage while on the run. You can read more about him here. TBH I can't remember what happened in IM3.

I can't wait for the next movie!

I cannot believe that the first movie, Iron Man, came out in 2008. We have been dutifully watching every movie since then, for about 11 years! Wow the feels :')

I felt that Endgame was satisfying, and it really didn't feel like 3 hours had gone by. It was probably fitting that Iron Man, the character that started the movie series off, be the one who wore the gauntlet in the end and did the final snap.

I'm curious - which is your favourite movie in the series?

Captain America isn't my favourite character, but I liked his movies more than the Hulk series. I enjoyed Black Panther loads too! Meanwhile, Thor Ragnarok and Age of Ultron ranks low on my list.

I also made a poll to make your choose between all dem characters. HAHA. Just for fun lah. I could only put 10 characters in the poll so choose from there!

In the cinema we caught this trailer featuring Chris Hemsworth (Thor) and Tessa Thompson (Valkyrie). The movie looks fun! Watch the trailer here:

TILL NEXT TIME!
Skye

P.S. The gifs are obviously not from Endgame, lol. Duh.

Hey ya!

I have been experimenting with Intermittent Fasting (IF) to lose some weight. I first saw this on an IG fitness/health account and thought I'll give it a try. It's a simple concept. Basically, you eat only during an 8 hour window, say from 10am to 6pm (you decide the time best for you).  Before and after that, no food for ya! Easy to remember right?

The convenient thing is that you are not limited to what you eat, but more of WHEN you eat. No need fancy organic ingredients, or meal prep. So you can still eat chips and ice cream if you want!

But of course, if you eat more healthily, the effects would probably be more apparent for you.

If you can relate to this Molang gif like I do:

Or this...

Then maybe intermittent fasting is the diet plan for you. It seems to be a lazy and easy way to lose some weight.

WHAT I DID

  • I ate from about 11am to 7pm. If I stopped eating at 8pm, I try to fast till 12pm to make it up.
  • I ate as usual, but in the IF window.
  • I drank lots of water to stave off hunger pangs.
  • BUT when I felt really faint and lightheaded, I ate immediately. IDW to die lol.
  • When I got hungry at night, I tried to sleep it off instead.
  • I also recorded all the food and I ate during the day. Food journals help you to be more conscious of what you're putting in your belly.
EXTRA (not part of IF)

  • I try to eat more vegetables and fruits. For example, 3/7 items in my YTF are now vegetables. Plus now I try to blend fruits into smoothies or juices so at least I'm taking some fruits rather than no fruits.
  • I tried to cut out the sweet desserts after meals. It's tough lol I have a real sweet tooth.
  • BBT went from 70% to 30% sugar level, which made the drink taste so crap I just stop buying BBT lol.
  • My job is kind of sedentary so when I travel on the bus, I stand instead of sitting. I try to stand more often!
  • I cycle and walk often, and try to run and swim occasionally. I have swam 4 times this year and ran 6 times this year. Kind of a sad statistic, but better than nothing lol.
  • I also use my friend's IG stories about them working out and eating healthy to motivate myself LOL. So friends, post more!
  • I  also sleep earlier (like 11pm?) to reap more sleep benefits and not eat at night.

HOW I FELT DURING INTERMITTENT FASTING

To be honest I felt miserable. Trying to diet is always a pain.
I mean, I love eating, and I think it shows on my blog too haha. Plus I freaking stopped eating ice cream for two months!!!

I started out pretty determined though. I weighed myself every day to see if anything was working.

DOES IT WORK?

Yeah, but only a little for me. I lost about 1-2kg. Gutted lol.

I did IF for about one, two months, but progress was pretty slow and my weight fluctuated. There didn't seem to be much real change in my weight. The kilograms I lost could well be just water weight. I actually wanted to blog about it before but since my results were abysmal I just abandoned the idea lol.

I threw it all out of the window by the time CNY came around.

HOWEVER

Recently I found out my friend Ovidia was doing IF too. She had been doing it for about 3 weeks, and already reaped a 4kg weight loss result!!! Omg please teach me senpai.

I asked her for some tips on what she did. I was probably doing it wrong.

OVID'S INTERMITTENT FASTING

  • "You have to be very strict with yourself, maybe occasionally fasting more or skipping a meal." Stick to your IF plan for best results.
  • "The key is balance and moderation. There are days I ate little, but also days that I ate buffets." Balance out your diet each day! If you had a big meal, have a small one the next mealtime.
  • "I also swam 3-5 times a week." Combine with exercise for faster results!
After this, I felt more motivated to try again. To know that IF worked for somebody spurs me on - maybe it would work for me if I was more strict with myself! Guess I should persist for longer too.

On a side note, starting lots of self-improvement projects can feel awfully austere sometimes (sleeping earlier, money goals, exercise goals etc) so maybe I'll take it slow and do things bit by bit.

I think just by ATTEMPTING intermittent fasting, my attitude towards for health and food has already improved a little. I still eat junk but not so often as before.

BEFORE YOU TRY

  • If you're just starting out, maybe start off with a bigger window, like a 10 hour eating window, instead of jumping right in. Your body might not be able to cope with the sudden change.
  • If you miss a day, don't beat yourself up. Just try again! We are not perfect. One step at a time! The goal is to do it consistently/
  • You know your body best, so don't gehkiang go do stuff you know that will make want to faint or etc. Do in moderation plx and don't sue me for this post haha. Your health is still number one!

AT YOUR OWN RISK OK!

I'm just gonna try IF again because I want to lose another 2 kg! Got fat after a holiday and the festive season ded. I don't want to buy new clothes so I better find a way to fit into my current ones.

Will update this space hopefully with good news :)

Ganbatte!

All the best,
Skye

Hey there!

Recently I've been into blending smoothies! It's an easy way to simultaneously clear fruits from the fridge and make it a fancy drink to enjoy. I use a Powerpac Bullet Blender, it's a 21 piece set with different containers and blades etc for about $20!

1. Peanut Butter and Banana

One way to spice up the classic banana milkshake is to add some peanut butter! It adds a new salty dimension to it, and if you use chunky PB, you get some extra crunch.

What you need:

  • Banana
  • Milk
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter

2. Avocado and Milo Smoothie

I first learnt of this combination when we were jamming at DB's house! Haha loved it. Some people find it a strange combination but milo is like chocolate...so it's basically an avocado and chocolate combi.

What you need:

  • Avocado
  • Milo
  • Milk

You can also save the avocado seed and try to grow it! More on that in another post.

3. Apple Yoghurt

I drink this when I want something creamy but also want to feel somewhat healthy. Lol.

What you need:

  • An apple
  • Yoghurt (I used a honey yoghurt, thinking of using Yakult next time.)
  • Milk

If I had some nuts like almonds or pecans, I think crushing them and adding it would be a nice touch too.

If a kitchen idiot like me can do it, you can make easy smoothies like these too. Share with me your favourite recipes!!!

Love,
Skye

Heya guys,

Here's our latest post on 3 restaurants and cafes you can check out on the Entertainer 1-for-1 app! This time we only have three spots to feature instead of the usual five, because... honestly we have been using our Burpple Beyond app more. (LOL)

The Bravery
66 Horne Rd, Singapore 209073 (Lavender MRT)

Ambience: Industrial deco with a few artistic lightbulbs. Pretty no-frills. Can be pretty loud and echo-y when there’s a crowd.

Comments on Food:

Bagel Set ($14.50)
The portion was pretty big but the ingredients didn’t really match well with each other. Would’ve preferred if they provided some sort of sweet jam to go with the sweet bagel but there wasn’t such an option. The ingredients tasted good separately/on their own though.

Omelette with smoked salmon ($11)
Omelette was not over-cooked as it was slightly runny on the inside, but tasted a bit plain.

Tip: Halal friendly and muslim owned!
Reservations by Chope: No
Rating: 7/10

Mad For Garlic

3 Temasek Blvd, 02-300/301, Singapore 038983 (West Wing, second floor above H&M and Uniqlo)

Ambience: This place gets crowded real quick, and long lines often form during meal times. Come early to avoid the wait. There are booths and the atmosphere is casual.

Comments on Food:
Tom Yum Pizza
We decided to give the Tom Yum Pizza ($23) a try and it turned out pretty good! The Tom Yum taste was not overpowering, prawns tasted fresh, and the fried garlic pieces were great. Wished that there were more lime slices though!

For a safer choice, go for the signature Garlic Snowing Pizza ($25), which is a thin crust base with sweet white sauce, garlic, shrimps and pineapples. Topped with plenty of freshly grated cheese by the staff.
Garlic Snowing Pizza $25
Ragu Steak Fettuccine $25
The Ragu was not as expected. The picture in the menu showed cubes of steak, but there were only minced beef here. Other than that, it was an okay dish. Good for sharing.

Lemon Calamari Cream Risotto $25

The waitress presented us with the choice of Spicy or non-Spicy for the risotto. We went with the spicy, and it was tasted more peppery really. The pickled garlic sprout topping the dish was a great appetiser and added a refreshing layer of taste when eaten with the risotto. Calamari was cut into small pieces and blended in with the rice. No taste complaints here, it was a comforting dish.
Total bill was $60 after Entertainer.

Tips:

-No tap water served, but you can get a Dasani bottle for $1.

-The restaurant can be rather chilly so prepare a jacket especially if you're in shorts!

-Also, if you are driving, Tower 5 office is the nearest you can park at. Download and register to be a member with the Suntec City app for free parking too (approach counter staff for assistance).

Baja Fresh

9 Bras Basah Rd, Rendezvous Gallery (Closest MRT: Bras Basah MRT)

Ambience:
Casual! You may spot SMU students . On the weekend we spotted several couples just chillin' out.

Comments on Food:
You can order at the self-service kiosk. but if you're using Entertainer, speak to the staff at the cashier instead.

Barely two minutes after we made our order, both our food arrived! How's that for FAST food? We were mad impressed by the efficiency.

This is the grilled chicken rice bowl. Really hearty, and feels healthy. Lol.

And this is the Baja Burrito! Yums! Tomatoes, avocados, and I chose spicy chicken from the list. You can pick shrimp, steak, and veggies too.

We were absolutely starving so we just scarfed these down. This place is good for a casual Mexican fix. Nothing super special, but decent enough to fill you up quick.

Tip: Get some extra salsa and sauces from the free flow bar!

Rating: 7/10

That's all from us folks! We're gonna be busy eating our hearts out, so till next time!

Bon Appetit,
Skye and Si Min

Heya guys!
As promised here is the post on Zhenghua Park! After getting off the bus stop, you'll find this huge rock and two paths.

This is what the path looks like!

There are a couple benches here. Next to this is mountain bike track, many bikers gather here before they begin.

We decided to check out Zhenghua park.

A sample of what the trail looks like.

The trail was pretty sandy!

Saw this and laughed about it, but my BF was like, it's not funny. Thinking back it's true LOL. Met a whole family of boars at Pulau Ubin that left us alone, but not every boar is as nonchalant!

There are signs like this as you go along.

Spotted some cool looking mushrooms!

After a short walk we ended up here, at Belukar Track. A quick Google search told us it would lead to Bukit Timah, but we were going to explore Chestnut Park that day so we backtracked!

I hope to update this blogspace on Belukar Track next time :)

Hope you enjoy this rather straightforward trail!

Love,

SkyeP.S. Don't miss Part 1 of the Chestnut Park series!

Part 1:  Nature Trail

Hello you :)

For today's tea time, we have some Korean Corn Silk Tea from the brand Chungjungone. Thank you Krisha and Ivan for the tea gift!

The packet smells really good!

There are three tea bags in each plastic packet. You can get it from Korean marts like Koryo Mart, or I spotted it on the Fairprice website too!

The tea is really fragrant and lifts my spirits. My mum enjoyed it too! A nice hearty tea to wind down with.

•·················•·················•

I've been reading these two books by Laura Lam.

The first of the Pacifica series is called False Hearts.

Twin conjoined sisters born in a cult escape and get embroiled in underworld criminal trouble in a world that has hover-cars and replicators that create food and (3D) prints things such as clothes. People also visit flesh parlours to change how they look. Your identity is stored in Verichips embedded in your body, and you can brain download information and graduate with a degree easily.

Our main characters try to bring down a dangerous drug ring and get to the bottom of things. Some romance here and there, but personally I didn't care for it. Lol.

This book had fancy budget for some cool red pages!

I found this book pretty interesting. As if a futuristic world was not enough, we also have a dodgy cult called 'The Hearth' living at the fringes of the city. The cult is headed by a lady called Mana-ma. There is also a Brother who is the 'husband'. Strange practices like mass dreaming sessions occur, with help from psychedelic drugs. They also reject technology but of course plenty of contradictions occur in a cult, to the advantage of the leader.

I guess adding a cult to the mix really shakes things up. The Netflix series of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt also uses the idea of a cult to make her character so clueless. (I didn't enjoy the show though.)

I don't know about you but I am always fascinated and pretty terrified by cults. Some famous cults in the world include the Aum Shinrikyo cult from Japan that was behind the deadly Sarin gas attack in the train. And how about the Illuminati????? So mysterious, but so creepy too.

(If you're interested in cults you might wanna check out this book on real life cults,  The Secret History of Cults: Bizarre Rituals and Murderous Practices Revealed. Warning: It's pretty dark.)

So anyway. False Hearts was a good read mainly for its premise! I couldn't get attached to any of the characters unfortunately. It was refreshing for me to read such a book though, I haven't been in touch with such sci-fi stuff for a while.

Second in the series, is Shattered Minds, by the same author.

In this book, we have a new character who battles her addiction to drugs. She has a very violent and dark past, and later is roped in to bring down the institution too. The author uses the same formula from the first book for the romance segment. There's always a convenient good looking guy nearby to help. Lmao.

/shrugs

This book loses steam quickly and is not as powerful as the first, but I guess fans of the first book would still read it anyway.

Ah well. I hope you guys have a great week ahead!

Cheers,
Skye

Hello and welcome back dear foodie!

This month we're back with a three Burpple Beyond picks, meant to help relieve you from choice paralysis when you're eating out. Hope our blogpost helps you out a little!

Char

363 Jln Besar, Singapore 208994
Ambience: Round table, Chinese banquet style without the garishness. Great place to bring the family or for a bigger group of friends!

Comments on Food:
We ordered two rice dishes (Yang Chow and their Chef recommended Sambal rice which wasn't very spicy), two vegetable dishes with Burpple Beyond, and one tofu dish.

The meat of course, stole the show. We had the Crispy Roast Pork Belly, the  Signature Char Siew and the Soya Sauce Kampong chicken.

Roast Pork: This was melt in your mouth goodness. Highly recommended!

The chicken. Pretty delicious but our least favourite among the three meat dishes.

The Char Siew was very yummy!  Veggies were standard.

Home Made Charcoal Tofu. I have never eaten black tofu, lol. It was not bad.

Tips: Burpple Beyond not available for the meat dishes. You can use BB on rice, vegetable dishes, but only for those under $14. Our total bill came up to $133 or so for six people.

Head to nearby cafes, Wimbly Lu or Chye Seng Huat Hardware for some coffee and dessert!

Rating: 8.5/10

Wing Zone (Bugis+)

04-02 Bugis +, 201 Victoria Street

Ambience: Few customers despite the lunch hour.

Comments on Food:
It started out great. I was excited because there were so many flavours to choose from. They even had a huge wheel at the counter you could spin to help you decide on a flavour!

We used BB for the 6pc Honey and 6pc Blackened Voodoo, a dry rub Cajun flavour.

Front: Honey, Back: Blackened Voodoo

Both were disappointing. The chicken was nothing special, and I felt that they just drizzled the honey sauce on. No wonder they had so many flavours?! The chicken wasn't very hot either. As for the Blackened Voodoo, the flavour didn't leave much impression either. It wasn't very crispy as well. Chicken was the drier type, and not the juicy kind.

I guess some people may enjoy their style of chicken, but I much prefer the Korean fried chicken style (think 4fingers etc). Ever since Korean fried chicken, life has changed for the better. Sorry, but these were both lacking in texture and flavour. To think I was so excited by the amount of variation they offered on their menu. Super sad meal :(

Tips: Plastic gloves provided, but there were no plates. The staff provides you with another of the metal tray if you request for it.

Rating: 3/10, not coming back again.

Second Storey Cafe Bar

19 East Coast Road, S428746

Ambience: The restaurant is located on the second floor, as its name suggests. Pretty quiet for a Thursday night, but it was a comfy large space to dine in.

Comments on Food:

To start off, we got Buffalo Wings. They were not spicy at all so you can order this if you don't really eat spicy stuff.

We ordered two pizzas and a burger!

The Beef Burger
Burger was average, while the pizzas were alright but a tad too salty. Pizzas were the thin crust doughy kind, not the crispy kind.

The strangest thing was that the Hawaiian Hoopla had no pineapples ???

Hawaiian Hoopla

Smoked Duck Pizza
The Smoked Duck pizza was topped with spring onions. I believe a sweet sauce like Hoisin was used too.

Overall, it's an affordable eat in the Katong area. Top it off with some alcohol, acai bowl, or boutique ice cream nearby.

Tip: Downstairs, there's the Lower East Side where many people were busy chugging their night away. There's a sweet promo for all you can drink beer for 90 minutes! $22 for ladies, $24 for gentlemen.

Rating: 7/10

Cheers and BON APPETIT!
