Hellooo!

Today Si Min and I went to 3Arts for a 2.5 beginner pottery session. I drew Ellie Flowers with a pottery wheel and apron after my sesh.

The teacher demonstrated the steps. We learnt how to Centre, Open, Centre again, and Pull.

Pottery is much harder than it looks. The instructors make it look so easy but now I know for a fact that it isn't. The clay is much harder than expected, especially at the start when you have to centre it!

Pulling is super difficult. Every time I get to this stage, my piece breaks off and I need to get a new mound of clay. Aigoo.

Me hard at work. LOOOL

After a while my wrists ached. I am an old lady. You have to be steady, patient and firm when working with clay!

Smiling despite a lopsided disaster.

The instructors helped us a lot. Some of them guide you by putting your fingers in place, while others  sit down and try to salvage your absolutely shoddy work XD Well, what can I say? I have 1.5 hours of experience in comparison to their 10-30 years experience.

But seriously, mad respect and admiration for potters! The glazed artwork, vases, bowls and tea pots were soooo lovely. I saw a wonderful black vase, and planters, cups and bowls coloured with modern palettes like white and millennial pink.

My hands were mostly dirty so I didn't take any photos. All these photographs are from leelee!

Here is her completed plate. The spirals are lovely.

And her cup. You can see my little bowl (done mostly by the instructor) at the right corner. I discarded that and decided to fire my cup instead (not pictured.)

We were mad tired after our beginner class. It was fun though! I laughed a lot at my terrible skills and enjoyed the touch of cool clay.

So... is pottery for me?
.
.
.
Not really. It requires a steady and firm hand to mould the clay. The pros make it look so breezy but man, it's tough. I prefer less forceful work like painting. The instructors say there's not much force involved but erm my arms are aching. HAHA. I am 100% happy about my experience though as pottery has always been on my bucket list! Hurray!!!

We bought our package from Fave and topped up $10 for every piece we wanted to keep, fire and glaze. However, the pieces will only be ready after 2 months! Looking forward to seeing them again after they go through 1000deg of heat. Braving the fire and through the passage of time? That's a keeper for sure.

Love,
Skye

Update : January 2021
Here are our beautiful pieces! Really enjoying the glaze colours and style.

One of the driving motivations behind the new illustration account (@chubbycat88) is so that I can make postcards!

I wanted to make some cute ones for Christmas! These actually came before the other illustrations on the account, simply because the printers needed lead time to carry out the printing :x

Printing has been a slight nightmare because of colour issues, but I think I now know what to avoid for the next time round! Can't wait to make more designs hehe.

So far I have been very very lucky to have friends who support me! They made the first orders for the shop and helped me spread the word. Thank you very very much <3

I had a blast setting up these photos too. A little ribbon and pompoms really help create a festive atmosphere!

Hey guys!

Recently I've been busy with my illustration hobby. I finally made an Instagram account for it! You can check it out here at: @chubbycat88.

I've been making pics daily because you know me, I like doing things in bursts of energy. I think it helps me express and release all my chaotic energy. I feel like I'm either in one of these two modes  : frenetic, or languid. Is there an in-between?

I really like drawing cute things though~!

This is Pudding Cat, named for her resemblance to Tong Yi pudding (统一布丁)aka my favourite pudding brand from Taiwan. She's a sweet and gentle bb.

I also made some of these into free phone wallpaper that you can download here! Enjoy!!! My mum is using the Piggie wallpaper now.

Currently I'm just drawing with my mouse on Photoshop. It's a pain but I guess you get used to it. Wondering if I should get Procreate or a wacom, but I think I'll go learn Adobe Illustrator first! Small steps, big dreams.

Here's to chasing our dreams!

Love,
Skye

Heya!

What's up?

I have been rather restless lately, and when my sister was out on errands, I asked for some crunchy snacks. I came home to this:

Insanity, isn't it?!!??!

This can last me a real long time!

Part of this junk haul includes these 4 funky flavoured Pringles!

Gonna do a short taste test.

Chicken Souvlaki (Limited Edition Food Truck)
This has a light taste reminding me of the yoghurt sauce used in Kebabs. It also has a light herb/pesto/minty taste.Yums!

Beef Taco (Limited Edition Food Truck)
I just had tacos the other day. At first whiff, the beef taco smell is really replicated! I laughed in spite of myself. This Pringle flavour is rather salty though, so I don't recommend this for bingeing. The Chicken Souvlaki is easier to down!

Tom Yum Song Kreung (Street Food)
Tastes of chilli, MSG, tom yum powder! The chilli leaves a pleasant, mild tingle on your tongue. Prefer this flavour to Nissin Tom Yum Potato Chips, which was waaaaaaay too salty.

London Style Fish and Chips (Passport Flavours)
This flavour is by far the strangest. It reminded me of burnt tyres and rubber. Um.
I guess it's trying to replicate the (overly?) fried battered fish. A nope from me.

•·················♡·················•

These flavours were so fun to try! It reminds me of the time when we were in a Taipei supermarket checking out all the funky flavoured stuff like macaron flavoured chips. o_O

I shall crown  Chicken Souvlaki  as my favourite! It has a light but interesting flavour that keeps me wanting more.

These Pringles were bought at Sheng Siong. HMU if you have fun snacks for me to try!

Skye

The Mermaid Handbook by Carolyn Turgeon is a collection of beautiful tales, luscious illustrations, mermaid events, films, history, and cute DIY projects for every mermaid lover.

It's a gorgeous book - the turquoise colour and gold pages certainly caught my eye at the library. I couldn't resist it.

Take a peek inside!

I giggled at this piece of advice on how to woo mermaids.

Know your seaweed.

An alluring book filled with everything mermaid - from stories of ladies who pursued their mermaid dreams, lores from around the world, to how to do a mermaid self-care routine at home.

Delightful.

Skye

Went to Platypus Cantina at Katong to try their Mexican fare. Love the fun ambience and decor, like this cute Mexican hat light.

BTW we spotted a lady having dinner outside with her pet parrot. It later perched on her head and she cycled away.

Our starter dish, the Nachos Corne Asada ($15.90).

A great appetiser to share, bursting with zesty flavours and topped with small slices of beef. Only gripe? The avocado was watery and the portion small. More guacamole please.

While waiting for your food to be served, you can try the Truth or Dare cards meant to liven up the conversation. I'd imagine these can be fun for people who are here to drink!

Pulled Pork Burger ($16.90)

Tender, well marinated pulled pork with jalapenos. Fries and burger bun nothing to shout about but it's an okay burger.

Katong Burger ($17.90)

This burger is too cute with a baby burger on top! The daddy burger has double smoked bacon, lettuce, cucumbers, tomato, queso (a cheese), Monterey Jack (another cheese). The salsa or Pico De Gallo was great too! My dad really enjoyed this burger.

Soft Tacos (Battered Fish)
Taco Tuesday: 2 for $4.90

You can choose from Soft Wheat Tacos or Corn Tacos, which are the harder types. There are lots of fillings to choose from, including Shrimp Camarones, Bulgogi Beef, Quinoa and Tofu, Duck Confit and Spicy Crab.

We ordered Battered Fish. Didn't like the texture of the fish though, kinda slimy inside. Maybe we'll try the corn tacos next time!

---x---

Platypus has a large extensive menu with drool-worthy photos. Each dish is fun, inspiring and full of flavour. Pair these with a drinks menu, and you are bound for a fun night out.

There's a large dining interior, bar counters and bar tables if you prefer to take in the people and sights outside while having a drink. Versatile!

Enjoyed our time here! I've actually been here before, but only for drinks. The other time we dined at Platypus Kitchen, which is located at Bugis. That was a fun meal too :)

Cheers,
Skye

Heya!

We found this restaurant serving Japanese Cuisine tucked away in Far East Plaza. It's called Biseryu! It's a cosy shop on the second floor near the entrance.

The Salmon Soup with Hokkaido Milk was recommended to us, but we were way too full after sharing a lobster roll and 2 gelato cones elsewhere in Orchard.

Ordered 2 mains + 2 drinks as part of the Burpple Beyond deal.

We mixed our cokes with lemon tea~ Big round whiskey glasses are great for creating ambience.

Roast Beef Omurice with Demi-glace sauce

Wagyu pieces were tender and melted in your mouth. Sublime.
One part of the rice however was hard and sticky as if microwaved? o_o
I enjoyed the silky omelette and demi-glace sauce, while my bf found the sauce too sweet for his liking.

Hakata Black Curry with Hamburg Steak

This dish really caught our eye and we decided to give it a go!

Black curry comes from Hakata city in Japan. The spice mix is cooked with chicken and pork broth and left overnight for the flavours to become rich.

When you think about Japanese curry, you usually have an idea of how sweet it tastes. Black curry is decidedly much stronger in its spice profile while retaining mild sweetness. Interesting dish indeed!

The hamburg steak is soft and juicy! I must say I am quite won over by the high quality meat used in their dishes

Staff was helpful and checked on us halfway through. She asked us how the meal was, and we said, "Great!"

Enjoy!

Skye
