Hi friends~

Just wanted to share this special edition of Pepero!

My favourite Pepero is the Almond and chocolate one but this one is pretty good too!

If you're wondering why this 'crunchy' flavour is called 'crunky', it ain't a typo. It's a tie up with this Lotte chocolate brand called Crunky.
So what's special? The biscuit stick is coated with chocolate and rice crispy bits. Addictive!

You can find this in Sheng Siong, probably about $1.20 or something.

Pepero is very life changing! I hardly buy Pocky or Pretz anymore, unless there's a special flavour.

That's all folks! Hope you enjoy.

Love,
Skye

Hey friends!

Here's another thing to do at home. My sis and I saw a caramel popcorn hack and we decided to try it out! By we, I mean that she cooked everything and I just do the very hard work of eating. Haha.

What you need:

  • Popcorn kernels
  • 15 Werther's Original Candy

This is pretty funny because the corn kernels are from USA but the packaging is very Chinese. In fact we found this in the Chinese dried food section of the supermarket.

Now, the Tiktok hack melts the caramel first, but my sister did some research and it seemed better to cook the popcorn first. Just add the kernels to a hot pot. They literally pop. Lol. It was fun to watch!

You can't hear the sound here but it was satisfying!

Ta da!

Now heat the candy slowly and drizzle over your popcorn.

Of course, you can make other flavours - classic salty popcorn, chocolate, you name it. We love the caramel macadamia popcorn from Garrett, so maybe we'll add some nuts next time?

Our popcorn stayed crispy for 2-3 days in an airtight box, before they were all gobbled up. We only used a tiny fraction of the corn kernels so I guess we'll be making this again.

If you decide to try it, I hope you enjoy it!

Cheerios!

Hi friends!

Today we visited East Coast Commune, a cafe by the beach🌴. Therefore, we have the honour of having beautiful photos by Si Min (@lsiminnn) gracing the blog today!

The cafe was large, bright and airy. It ticks all the boxes for the current aesthetic trends - huge plants, wicker furniture, hanging woven art, and even a teal accent wall. Everything is very pleasing to the eye and the level of detail is obviously a labour of love.

The cafe serves pastries, pasta, as well as something a little different from other cafes - sourdough waffles and sandwiches!

I went for the Fish Sourdough Sandwich cuz I was starving~ Plus, the description looked really interesting. Take a look:

Fish

Smoked Barramundi, Ponzu Kangkong, Garlic Chive Cream Cheese, Pickled Shallot, Country Loaf

No? I was really curious about how the kangkong would work with sourdough so I ordered this haha. As promised, it packed a real umami punch! It's not much to look at, but I really enjoyed the taste!

The custom coasters are really cute too. We also ordered these items.

Bagels and Smoked Salmon ($15)
Latte
Mocha
(These were okay. I prefer super crispy bagels or softer, tenders ones.)

Kouign Amann $5.50
I didn't know how to pronounce this. It's apparently pronounced 'kween a-mahn'. Nevertheless, this is so bomb! It's sweet and flaky. Love it! (Actually, it reminds me of a prata bomb. Of course, this is way more atas and refined.) Wish I could heat it a bit more - that would have been perfect!

Word of caution, the cafe is pretty crowded on weekends, so keep that in mind! They do not take reservations on weekends or public holidays.

On a weekday, the air-con is on full blast which is a nice respite from the oppressive heat outside. We spied friends catching up, people working, and several mothers with babies in tow. The staff was warm and friendly, gladly helping us (and others) take photos.

This is a selfie though!

East Coast Commune is definitely a lovely addition to ECP and we were glad to have the chance to visit it :)

(The word 'commune' really reminds me of communism, cults and hippies though lmao.)

Hello sweeties!

After our pasta and pizza meal, we did a 5 minute walk to Dopa Dopa Creamery, an artisanal gelato cafe. I always forget how gelato is different from ice cream. (Generally gelato uses more milk and less cream.)

There were flavours like Houjicha, Ferroro, Mango Pear Sorbet and Lychee Oolong with Raspberry Bits. We went for Pistachio and Green Tea Toasted Rice on cones.

Roasted Pistachio: 5 STARS PLEASE! 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
So far this is the nuttiest pistachio ice cream I've tried! I dislike mild pistachio tastes! I rate this nuttier and yummier than BoP and Tom's Palette! (Haven't tried Creamier yet T_T Update Aug 2021: We've tried it and still prefer the Dopa Dopa one because it's less sweet! Creamier's one is indeed... creamier and the pistachio tastes is not as pronounced as Dopa's.)

This is their Signature flavour, that they describe as 'toasty and robust'.  I agree completely. It's made using their home-made nut paste. I wish gelato didn't melt so fast though hahaha.

If I had to nitpick, ir would be the cone that was a let down. The cone is a premade one (saw the brand in their kitchen). It has a nice crunch but its cloying sugar taste really detracts from the lovely ice cream. I think we're gonna go for the cup the next time.

Green Tea Toasted Rice 🌟 🌟 🌟
This is basically like genmaicha. As you know, I love teas like this and Houjicha, so this was pretty good too! It came kind of flat and oddly shaped though LOL. Giving it 3 stars because it was lovely but did not leave a deep impression.

Side note: Whenever I eat cone ice creams, I always think of Cornetto and their chocolate filled cone bottoms. If I ever have an ice cream shop, I will fill all my cones with chocolate like that haha! Anticipating and finishing off ice cream with a chocolate bottom is such a joy in life.

A single scoop is $4.30 +  $1 for premium and $1 for cone. Our total bill was $12.60.

When my freezer is freed (lol) of other ice cream (Merely's Butterscotch! Andersen! Magnums! and Acai), we'll be back for Pistachio. It's such a treat!

We were wondering if the name 'Dopa' means dopamine?

They also serve gelato in croissants. I don't know how that would taste like actually. If the croissants are hot, the gelato will melt super fast! And... if the croissants are room temperature, then they may not be crispy, which really detracts and wastes the fine layers of a croissant, in my humble opinion. But I guess don't knock it before you try it? Haha.

Looking at this croissant photo makes me want to try another trend: croffles! (Croissant x waffles)

The cafe is cute, bright and stylish. Nice place to hang out after a meal. You can't linger now due to Covid-19, so you get 30 minutes in the cafe. That's actually okay because gelato melts quick lmao.

The staff was young and friendly. We enjoyed our time here and hope to be back.

Till next time! ✨

Hi friends!
Wow, it has been a long time since I did a food post! It was so nice to dine out!!!

We went to Trattoria La Vita for pasta and pizza! The nearest MRT  is Clarke Quay.

First we ordered a pizza  🍕.

Prosciutto, Cherry Tomatoes, Ricotta Cheese ($$27.90)

The 'La Vita Crispy Crust' was thin and delightfully crispy indeed, but the pizza was served lukewarm. Hmm I'm not used to this 😂 Maybe it's because of the prosciutto?

[Prosciutto is an Italian dry-cured ham that is usually thinly sliced and served uncooked]

Next, some ravioli! I love ravioli. These little pasta pillows spark joy.

Ricotta Ravioli in Truffle Cream Sauce ($32.90)

The truffle cream sauce was lovely too. I do love mushrooms! I absolutely love creamy mushroom soup with not too blended bits.

The ravioli was stuffed generously, not like some of the others I've tried in SG! Thank goodness for that.

I've watched very satisfying videos of people making ravioli on YouTube, and hope to make some in the future! Making ravioli and dumplings seem so fun.

The ambience here is warm, cosy and modern. There were about 4-5 couples when we were there at dinner time. I imagine that the restaurant used to be super busy on weekends with lots of heart and cheer. Unfortunately now due to Covid-19, business has inevitably taken a hit.

The staff was friendly and one in particular cracked many jokes, much to the amusement of the diners XD

Total bill after Burpple 1-for-1 and GST was about $38.90! We had other plans for dessert so we skipped the tiramisu.

Here's their menu: http://lavita.com.sg/wp-content/uploads/2021/06/21.07_MainMenu.pdf

Till next time, guys!
