Hey guys!

Watched a really old movie over the weekend called Space Jam! Sounds familiar?

Space Jam is a 1996 mixed media film featuring basketball legend Michael Jordan and the cast of Looney Tunes! It's a very family friendly movie that stays classic through the years. Light hearted and amusing.

I might have watched the movie as a child, but I cannot be 100% sure. I am certain that I had some of its toys and merchandise though, like a little collectible chip that probably came packaged with potato chips. Anyone remembers these things?!

Space Jam 2, starring LeBron James is slated for a 2021 release, so we thought we'll refresh our memories.

For the uninitiated, Michael Jordan, though known for his basketball legacy, also played professional baseball. He later returned to playing pro basketball, where he still shone the brightest.

The Looney Tunes cast enlists his help for a basketball game against an alien crew. I missed these guys!

Sylvester the cat is such a psycho cat...

I laughed at this scene - the characters saying that they are property of the Warners Brothers Inc. Lol!!

The mix of animation and conventional film is so fun! It's amusing to think about how they shot this with the green screen.

Plenty of fun basketball shots!

TRIVIA:

The 1996 original promotional website for Space Jam is still up :)

https://www.spacejam.com/ It is super cute!!! Check it out, it's a huge throwback. I love it.

I had fun watching this movie for sure. Maybe you'll enjoy it too!

Cheers to a great week ahead,

Hey guys!

Just finished this book last night and wanted to share some excerpts from it.

Severance is a book about life before and after a pandemic called 'Shen Fever', a viral fungal infection originating in Shenzhen. Uncanny huh? The book was published in 2018, by the way.

We follow the story of Candace Chen, a Chinese immigrant to the USA. I enjoyed the Asian references and perspective! Details like how the character used a bar of brown Neutrogena soap and the mother's nagging about daily moisturising, were endearing to me. There was one scene where she cut out her parents' favourite items from a magazine and sent it to them via burning - what we Chinese do during the seventh month. It makes me realise once again that rituals are really more for the living sometimes - we just want to feel purposeful and connected to our loved ones even when they are not physically around anymore.

The story is interspersed with chapters of her life before and after 'Shen Fever'. So we have musings of her lifestyle, her Asian family's migration to the US, as well as zombie story scenes where house raids of the 'fevered' are conducted for supplies. It reminded me of The Walking Dead. I thought these elements were well balanced and was a great mix that made the book riveting.

However, just a word of caution: the story ends rather abruptly and I was left unsatisfied. That's the only caveat of this book I guess.

In the story, the love interest, Jonathan, is a chill freelancer who does not believe in the constraints of conventional society. He breaks free of the office world and lives on the fringes of society, reclaiming his time and effort. This theme is discussed several times. Candace struggles with accepting this way of life, because if you want a child, you can't afford to be so freewheeling like Jonathan. These parts of the story resonate with me the most.

"Most of all, I want my time and my efforts to be my own."

A day off because of disasters that can't be helped, causing enough damage but not too much, so that life goes back to normal eventually. A discussion of leisure in today's working world.

"Only in America do you have the luxury to be depressed."

I guess when you refer to Maslow's hierarchy, it's kind of true. When you're worrying about things like food and shelter, you have to keep moving and keep grinding to keep your head above the water. No time to reflect and mope inside when survival becomes an everyday issue.

Overall still an interesting read!

Enjoy!

Hello sweeties!

This post is just gonna be all about sweet things I've eaten for the past week. I don't think I can ever abstain from sugar...

First I baked more blackout brownies! By accident, I baked the Cakey versions instead of the Fudgey ones. But you know what? I find the Cakey versions to be closer to the Backyard baker brownies! Happy accident then. Made half a batch of plain ones and half a batch of nutella ones!

Bought these cute bags from Daiso (18pcs for $2) to store them and gift them! I'm sorry for using plastic but paper bags are not great because the oil/butter seeps through and the stains look unsightly. Lined paper bags are also not recyclable...

Glowing review from Peppy....'s owner! XD

We love nutella ooze. The great thing about home baking is that you can be extremely generous with whatever fillings you want.

It's also birthday week over at my house because of my sister, so we have been receiving a ton of deliveries. Among them, let me highlight a few.

From Chye Seng Huat Hardware. My mum was like ????? when we told her the name Lolz. Had to explain it's the aesthetic/theme and not an actual hardware store... haha.

I love lemon tarts! This crust is decent and delicious. The round cake is an Olive Raspberry cake in the right corner which I am a little hesitant to try.

Delivery comes with two cold brew bottles! Blend is strong and potent! Be careful if not you might not be able to sleep. Haha. The hazelnut taste is very faint though~

I enjoyed this delivery very much!! 10 scoops of ice cream (coconut, thai milk tea, chocolate from KOKO Ice Cream. )

Next, a huge dessert box from Twenty Grammes. My favourite is the lychee ball and white chocolate tart over at the left! Love the fruity burst!

Thanks to my sister's friends, I have 口福。

Signing off now!

Yoooo!

I was craving chicken nuggets, so I made some! This is what I call a 'go-getter' attitude, lol.

Recipe difficulty: EASY

Equipment you need:

  • Air fryer or oven
Ingredients:

  • Chicken thigh cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt, pepper, spices of choice for marinade
  • Oil (I used olive oil)
  • Breadcrumbs (I used Panko)
Let's get cookin!

First let's cut up the chicken thigh. You can use chicken breast but I've been told it gets a bit dry. Marinate with olive oil, salt, pepper and spices of choice! I use white pepper and chilli flakes!

Next we are going to coat the chicken pieces with panko breadcrumbs. Panko breadcrumbs are used in Japanese Tonkatsu. We got ours from NTUC! I pressed down the crumbs to make them stick. Some people use a egg mixture to let it stick better too. I just used oil.

Now it's time to pop it into your air fryer! Make sure to spray your tray with some oil, and also spray some oil onto the chicken for a nice golden brown.

I used the 'chicken' setting on my airfryer which was 210 deg Celsius.

I cooked it for 10 minutes, then flipped the pieces and let it cook for another 10 minutes until golden brown. You can do the same with your oven, just check regularly and make sure they don't burn.

It's done!!!!

I wasn't holding any high expectations, but to my surprise it tasted good!!! My parents enjoyed it, which is more of the shocker to me HAHA. I absolutely enjoyed the leftover crispy flakes too. I think some variations on this would be Cheese nuggets, Basil nuggets ? Might try air-frying some 'tofu' nuggets sometime as an experiment, I think the texture might be yummy.

And there you have it! I think this is healthier in the sense that it is less processed? Not sure what goes into a store-bought nugget, but I know exactly what went into this homemade one! :)

Bonus: Wrap your nugget with lettuce for extra health points! My nuggets were a lil too salty so this helped offset the saltiness. I will increase the spice level and lower the salt level next time!

Overall this was a really easy recipe haha! I mean, basically you're just cooking up small pieces of breaded chicken. Haha.

Tip from my mum: Make batches ahead of time (including the panko coating part!) and freeze them in the fridge. Then you just need to toast them when you're hungry - same concept as frozen nuggets lol.

Hope you enjoy~

Love,
Skye

Hi lovelies!

I just made this cute rabbit town from a DIY kit and I wanted to share my experience with you!

I've always wanted to try my hand at such DIY kits but couldn't justify buying something that would have a 'one time use' and take up space in my room.

However, recently I finally had a chance to try it out thanks to a National Day Giveaway from Blue Stone!

Unboxing!

I won the 'In A Happy Corner' box kit! There are also other versions like winter, countryside etc.

We get the all important guidebook, which will include all instructions and paper templates you need to cut out. The guidebook is in Chinese.

Upon unboxing, you will see several labelled plastic bags with materials, a metal tin box, batteries and craft tools.

We get a ruler, a small penknife, craft glue, tweezers and a cute rabbit stand for the finished box.

Getting Started!

The first step was easy. I cut out the background from the guidebook and pasted it into the metal box.

Then we have to work with some batteries and wires.

The pieces are really tiny! Cut the paper and paste them on their wooden counterpart.

Some pieces are easy to assemble.

Some are challenging. Had a hard time trying to twist the wires to make this balcony... as you can see it's REKT! The wires are supposed to be neatly coiled like the middle one, but it was really difficult to manipulate the shape.

Creating the structure of the townhouse!

Some things are super tiny. You really need to concentrate to cut out small paper plates and tiny street signs.

I completed the overall structure! We even have cute lacy curtains for the windows. The wire goes into a hole in one of the walls.

It's time to make some furniture! Here's a tiny cabinet. The beads were so small. You can see I had a hard time dealing with them with the ugly glue stains I left behind.

A newspaper paper box, metal flower chairs, and handsome bookshelves! Little miniature items really please the eye!

Making a round table, cutting a table cloth and making 'cake' from cutting erasers. (The guidebook specified that the cakes be cut into 0.25cm pieces.) At this point I was very amazed by the person who made the guidebook and designed the entire kit. The details are incredible!

Finished product!

Welcome to Rabbit Town! There's a bakery, a florist, a cafe, as well as a study and private quarters with a balcony.

The plants were tricky to make too... the beads are super small!!! But I really enjoyed setting up this box :) It took me about 5-6 hours in all to assemble this. Crafting is such a fun pastime!

One photo without light:

And a photo with light. Ain't it pretty? :)

Made a short gif/video to show you the parts in closer detail!

A photo of it on the wooden rabbit stand! Aww.

Tips:

  • Take frequent breaks or you will suffer from neck and shoulder aches!
  • Try to be neat with your glue. I have a lot of glue threads and leftover messy glue spots. Sometimes I use my own glue stick instead of the craft glue that is provided to minimise mess.
  • You don't have to work for an entire stretch of time - I did this over two sessions when I had time!

I guess my hunch was right - I knew I would enjoy such a hobby! This could be the first of many projects.  Of course, this DIY kit took time, but don't all hobbies? As long it brings you joy, I don't see any harm in it (your wallet might think otherwise).

Once again, thanks to Blue Stone for selecting me as the winner! This post is not sponsored - I just wanted to share my experience with this DIY kit!

Hope you enjoyed this post! :)

Love,
Skye
