Homemade Chicken NUGGETS!

Yoooo!

I was craving chicken nuggets, so I made some! This is what I call a 'go-getter' attitude, lol.

Recipe difficulty: EASY

Equipment you need:

  • Air fryer or oven
Ingredients:

  • Chicken thigh cut into bite-sized pieces
  • Salt, pepper, spices of choice for marinade
  • Oil (I used olive oil)
  • Breadcrumbs (I used Panko)
Let's get cookin!

First let's cut up the chicken thigh. You can use chicken breast but I've been told it gets a bit dry. Marinate with olive oil, salt, pepper and spices of choice! I use white pepper and chilli flakes!

Next we are going to coat the chicken pieces with panko breadcrumbs. Panko breadcrumbs are used in Japanese Tonkatsu. We got ours from NTUC! I pressed down the crumbs to make them stick. Some people use a egg mixture to let it stick better too. I just used oil.

Now it's time to pop it into your air fryer! Make sure to spray your tray with some oil, and also spray some oil onto the chicken for a nice golden brown.

I used the 'chicken' setting on my airfryer which was 210 deg Celsius.

I cooked it for 10 minutes, then flipped the pieces and let it cook for another 10 minutes until golden brown. You can do the same with your oven, just check regularly and make sure they don't burn.

It's done!!!!

I wasn't holding any high expectations, but to my surprise it tasted good!!! My parents enjoyed it, which is more of the shocker to me HAHA. I absolutely enjoyed the leftover crispy flakes too. I think some variations on this would be Cheese nuggets, Basil nuggets ? Might try air-frying some 'tofu' nuggets sometime as an experiment, I think the texture might be yummy.

And there you have it! I think this is healthier in the sense that it is less processed? Not sure what goes into a store-bought nugget, but I know exactly what went into this homemade one! :)

Bonus: Wrap your nugget with lettuce for extra health points! My nuggets were a lil too salty so this helped offset the saltiness. I will increase the spice level and lower the salt level next time!

Overall this was a really easy recipe haha! I mean, basically you're just cooking up small pieces of breaded chicken. Haha.

Tip from my mum: Make batches ahead of time (including the panko coating part!) and freeze them in the fridge. Then you just need to toast them when you're hungry - same concept as frozen nuggets lol.

Hope you enjoy~

Love,
Skye
