After watching this video from TSL where Brenda, Fauzi and Amanda ate like Sew (the pickiest eater in the office), I decided to eat clean for a week. Lol. Why??? Because reverse psychology works and also sometimes I eat like Sew, albeit with more vegetables and fruits.

So this is LITERALLY a food log with my thoughts. Click away if not interested lol.

THE GOAL: Eat Clean = Eat less processed food like my favourite Calbee chips, cookies, ice cream, chocolate and instant noodles. I also try to avoid red meat, bad carbs, whenever possible and replace with fruits and vegetables. The goal is to shed some weight and also be healthier.

DAY ONE

Breakfast

2 sunny side eggs, a banana and half a cup of coffee.

Lunch

Home cooked turnip cake

Tea Time

Had a mango.

Dinner
My family had brown rice for dinner since I told them about my diet plan. We also had tomato eggs, fish and a vegetables. Had some guava too.

DAY TWO

Breakfast

Two sunny side eggs and a banana again. Half a cup of coffee.

Lunch

I swam 16 laps in the morning so I was starving.

Tried out a meal in a grain bowl style! Had 2 servings of shanghai greens, cherry tomatoes, pan-fried tofu with oyster sauce, and one IKEA chicken sausage. Didn't wanna eat meat but this was already opened so I was just helping to clear out the fridge.

Tea Time

Cookies are screaming 'EAT ME!' but I manage to ignore them. Ate a mango instead.

Dinner

Ate Thai Tom Yum Bee Hoon Soup with cherry tomatoes and fishballs. It's instant but I'm not going to eat brown rice AGAIN!! Suffered at night when my sister brought home leftover fries. Didn't touch them though. I decide I need to have a cheat day and eat some cake. Maybe on Sunday.

Had a packet drink (Yuzu Honey Lemon) which was given to me at work.

DAY THREE

Breakfast

I was really hungry the previous night and ended up looking for some breakfast inspiration online. The oats bowls looked really good and since I didn't want to have eggs for the third day running, I went for it! I cooked the quick rolled oats in boiling water, then added milk and honey before topping with some banana and peanut butter (a treat).

Also finished my coffee from the day before. Ice cold love.

I know my coffee is bad for me (SUPER hazelnut white coffee, 159 kcal per serving), but I never did say this challenge was about reducing sugar, right? Muahaha.

Lunch

My dad came through and returned from the market with mushrooms, cauliflower, potatoes and more firm tofu. I start to prepare them for lunch! Decided to season the potatoes in my usual oil + black pepper + red flakes combo, and try a 'General Tso' style for the cauliflower.

It was kind of a fail but the cauliflower was crunchy at least! Also washed this down with coconut juice.

Tea Time

Two curry puffs (given at work, impolite to decline)

Dinner

Grapes
Chicken Soup
Cauliflower

DAY FOUR

Breakfast
Smashed avocado, hard boiled egg, cherry tomatoes, toasted Gardenia wrap
Spinach banana frozen smoothie

Lunch
Chicken Soup
Brown Rice
Grapes

Dinner

Made a mushroom omelette and added some salad leaves and cherry tomatoes. Added the wrap and 4 mexican drumlets (processed, but give chance pls.)

Supper (Oops)
Half a Hoshino Pancake my mum brought home
3 Oreos
Milk

DAY FIVE

Breakfast

Oats with milk and honey, apple
Spinach banana frozen smoothie

Lunch
Tofu pancake (with spring onions, carrots and garlic)
Boiled Spinach
Toasted Wrap
Yakult
Two sugar crackers

Dinner
Mee Goreng
A bit of lemon meringue cake and mango coconut cake
(After 5 straight days of clean eating, you can see that the plan falling apart. )

DAY SIX

Breakfast
I was still very bloated and full from the previous night's dinner...
Packet Peach Tea (Given, 90kcal)

Lunch
Chicken Soup with brown rice

Dinner
Tokyo Sundubu (5 Veg)
White rice
Hollin caramel tea latte

DAY SEVEN

Breakfast
Toasted ciabatta

Lunch
Thai boat noodles
Thai fish cake
Vegetable spring rolls
Thai milk tea (it was all in a set)

Tea Time
Houjicha Swiss Roll (Given, shared)

Dinner
Tze char - har cheong kai, hor fun, vegetables, tofu.

Conclusion

As you can tell, the weekends became cheat days because I share meals with my family and friends. I do try to eat more vegetables (by choosing the veggie sundubu instead of beef or pork) though!

I have never eaten so much tofu in a week. I don't think I have eaten so many vegetables and fruits in a week on my own accord either... wow! Haha. It wasn't too bad though! Just that it's way more time consuming to prepare healthy, fresh meals, but I suppose meal prep would help a lot?

Wins
  • Managed to keep instant meals to a minimum (thai tom yum mifen and mexican drumlets)
  • Managed to steer clear of the Calbee potato chips and chocolates at home even though someone opened it!!!
  • Ignored truffle fries that was brought home
  • Did not finish eating the cake so I guess some calories were saved.
  • I also ran three times, swam and cycled.

Would I do this again? Yeah, it's business as usual for me for tomorrow. I guess eating 5/7 days of a heavy veggie/tofu/fruit diet is a win nonetheless.

Cheers!
Skye

Hey lovely people!

Are you up for some Nonya cuisine?

Here's a photo walk-through of my visit to Chilli Padi at Joo Chiat.

Kueh Pie Tee ($10.80)

Warm shredded turnip, big prawn and bursting flavour in a cute cup.

A close up! I love it~

The food was served really quickly. Here's the Beef Rendang (Medium $22.80)

The beef rendang was fragrant but my folks like it more spicy.

Tahu Goreng $8.80

Next up. BBQ Sotong (Medium $19.80)

This was super good!

Udang Assam Pedas (Medium ,$21.80)

Unfortunately, petai (臭豆 in Chinese) was out so we had the assam version of prawns instead. Prawns were thick, juicy and fresh! The assam comes with vegetables like lady fingers, tomatoes and brinjals.

Lastly, the Pork Rib Buah Keluak! (Medium, $22.80)

Alright, so this is my first time having the famed nut. It's poisonous when it's raw, but after the nut has been fermented and cooked, you can eat it!

I heard that it has a rather strong unique flavour that can be rather divisive, so I was apprehensive.

Well! How did it go? The pork ribs were tender and the sauce was alright.
Now, for the nut... there were 3-4 nuts and you are given small picks to get the flesh out.

I found that the nut had a very strong alcoholic taste? Not really into it HAHA but worth a try!

What about you? How do you feel about Buah Keluak?

Mee Siam Goreng and Dry Laksa looked interesting, but we're gonna save that for next time! Sadly, wee were too full for dessert so we skipped the Pulut Hitam and Durian Chendol.

We used Burpple Beyond for the mains and the bill came up to $77.90 for five people.

Here's the address if you're interested.

I don't know about you, but sometimes life can get a bit stale (and stifling) especially now that travelling for leisure is a no-no.

In that sentiment, I compiled a list of 101 activities to do with your significant other (or friends and family).

I'm fairly certain that you have done some items on this list, but thought it would be nice to put them altogether for easy reference anyway. Hope it comes in handy~!

Some activities are free, some require some $$$. Whether they are fun or not, wholly depends on you!

Cheers,
Skye

P.S. Made a wheel generator for those of you who can't even decide which of the nine types of activity you want to  do!

P.P.S BONUS! One kind of boliao activity that I enjoy is people watching. I also enjoy window shopping in the supermarket. Teehee.

What's up peeps?

I borrowed a bunch of books from NLB! Couldn't resist and went home with a haul of 14 books. It was not fun wrestling large, thick volumes with an umbrella that was threatening to fly away with the crazy wind. Apart from my usual fiction and non-fiction reads, I borrowed lots of comic/art books this time!

Here's a comic from a Singaporean artist, Drewscape about his life as a first-time dad.

This is his record of life with baby Ollie. He mentions that he was missing out on recording many moments as he 'tried too hard to make a funny and great comic'.  Eventually, he told himself to focus on telling the stories before he forgot them and thus, this comic diary was born. It's a lovely collection of small precious moments as Ollie grows up. I'd imagine she'll have fun reading this when she grows up!

I enjoyed these full pages of baby adventures!

I also love how her cheeks are portrayed - such soft and gentle strokes! So cuuute.

Checked out these two board books of art greats Andy Warhol and Salvatore Dali as I wanted to learn more about them.

Dali seemed to be quite an eccentric and dramatic man. The book calls him a 'Child King' who is used to getting his way. He's born in Spain.

Lobster phone, one of the surrealist objects he made.

The illustrations by Andrew Rae are stunning. This picture spread tells of one of the crazy parties thrown for Dali and his wife Gala. Music was played from a meat carcass, and guests were given a sausage upon entry. They were told to dress as their dreams.

This page tells us about Dali's wife, Gala. "Dali describes sitting in his car, watching Gala change a tyre in the pouring rain." He admits that he is a swine. Interesting relationship dynamics???

Delved into the life of Andy Warhol next.

He seems less off putting than Dali, though he also partied with the big and famous.

He was also described as a hoarder, collecting plenty of things that filled his home.

I liked this idea of a Time Capsule to capture the times. Perhaps I should start my own. Art books are really fun for me and inspire me to do something creative, no matter how tiny the project, in my life.

We visited the National Gallery too! Enjoyed this Wu Guan Zhong exhibition.

Some of his student's works! I love how lively the brushstrokes are.

The 'flatness' and perspectives are so fun. My favourites are from Li Zheng Ming

He also held an interesting take on art education - that it should be tailored to each student. Cool guy.

We went to the Georgette Chen exhibition as well. I love how she signs off as C H E N in block letters. At first I thought they were numbers. Haha.

We also spied lots of bold fashion choices at the museum - thigh high dresses, neon scarf top, plenty of kick-ass boots and a lady in a mint green pantsuit. Digging it.

Till next time! I'm going to try making some stuff.

Cheers,
Skye
