Hey guys!
Yeah... I'm supposed to be on a diet but my sister received this as a gift so I got to try them! The box is very pretty too.
We have two tarts from Keong Saik Bakery :
1. Orh Nee (yam)
2. Mugi (genmaicha and barley)
Guess you guess which one I'm more interested in straight off the bat? 😜
If you guessed Mugi, you are right! Japanese teas are my favourite - matcha, hojicha, genmaicha, you name it.
There is a thick genmaicha cream atop a layer of barley in this tart. Here's a close up:
The barley bits were a really nice surprise! The slight chewy texture provides some textural contrast to the cream. I really enjoy that they innovate regularly too and come up with new flavour combinations. They offer a selection of cakes, muffins, and even mooncakes for the season! Some interesting flavours that caught my eye include Taromisu, a yam paste and Kahlua coffee combination, as well as Seashore, an earl grey cake in a pretty butterfly pea blue.
As for the tart base, it is of a softer, buttery texture. I prefer something with more crunch though!
If you're wondering why I said nothing about the Orh Nee Tart, it's because there's nothing much to say other than the flavour is decent and not too sweet. It's kinda predictable but it's a decent tart though it might not hit the spot if you're looking for an orh nee fix.
Anyway, I think these tarts go for $8.80 a pop. We had a yummy tea time!
