Stay Home Days are Movie Days

Last week I discovered that you could watch free movies on Nites.tv, so I ploughed through all 92 pages of their catalogue, bookmarked a bunch and started watching some as well.

Birds of Prey (and the Fantabulous Emancipation of one Harley Quinn)

Fabulous fight scenes! Fantastic costumes, cute set and colours. I also really enjoy the soundtrack, which radiates lots of Grrrrrl Power! Missed this one in the theatres, but really enjoyed this and might actually watch it again because it was such a visual treat!

Harley Quinn is a much needed, refreshing character in the 'superhero' universe. As a female superhero, she's not as serious as Captain Marvel and Wonder Woman, but still kicks lots of asses.

More importantly, she is an interesting, flamboyant character that makes for pure entertainment. Just  so fun to watch! Lots of superhero characters focus too much on being 'right' or 'tragic'... where's the fun y'all? The female ones especially end up being really PC whenever they are the main characters, or have little development or depth when they're on the sidelines (think: Black Widow... maybe until her own movie is released). Lots of Harley love here!! Margot Robbie is excellent!

This movie I absolutely recommend! 8.5/10, higher score if the villains were cooler and the team had more character development together.

Little Women

Oh, this movie Little Women was excellent! Based on the classic by Louisa May Alcott, the movie is full of life, and shines in its quiet moments as well. 9.5/10, because this plot never gets old!

Shazam

Light-hearted superhero comedy that is very family friendly. I really liked the children, they were as cute as buttons! 7/10

Don't you think main character Billy Baston looks a little like Arya from GoT?

The Sun Is Also a Star

This is a sweet teen romance where everything happens because of 'destiny'. I remember being less than impressed by the book, but this film starred Yara Shahidi (Zoey in Black-ish) and Charles Melton so I wanted to give it a go. Well I guess I have really outgrown this genre - I ended up being rather bored despite the pretty scenes.

I mean, you have to try watching Charles Melton though. Look at that killer jawline.
I miss taking the MRT??? Haha.

I used to really dig this serendipity thing, so I will recommend this to the secondary school me. The movie is reminiscent of Nick and Norah's Playlist and other 'girl meets boy by chance' teen romances. 6.5/10

Where'd You Go, Bernadette?

Where'd you go, Bernadette is about the catastrophic events that lead up to a missing mother, who is a genius architect but also a bit of a kook. I enjoyed the book better but the visuals of Antarctica was breathtaking! 6.5/10

Ocean Waves

This one is animated by Ghibli and I watched it on Netflix ! It was calm, didn't really have a point, but that's fine. Like this article says, it's all about the nuance. 7/10
